PHILOSOPHY AND AIMS |
| Banani School aims to provide a high standard of education for girls of diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. The school strives to create a positive, dynamic and inspiring environment within which students can develop their potential in academics, practical skills, interpersonal skills, physical fitness, and moral responsibility. Students are encouraged to use a rational, scientific approach to problem solving, both in and outside of the classroom; to think independently and to express themselves clearly and honestly within the bounds of courtesy and respect. We regard moral and spiritual development of the child essential for the growth of a healthy, balanced person. Our spiritual nature must be developed in order to live a purposeful, meaningful life. In order
to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world, students are encouraged
to approach personal challenges with courage, tolerance, flexibility,
and an open mind. |

| PRINCIPLES |
Individual Investigation of Truth Individual investigation of truth is regarded as both a right and a responsibility of the learner. It is encouraged by emphasizing creative and critical thinking whereby students learn to analyze data and diverse points of view and arrive at their own conclusions. The Oneness of Mankind We are all citizens of one world, equal to each other irrespective of race, creed, or gender. The realization of the principle of the oneness of all humanity is a prerequisite for achieving world peace. Students are encouraged to understand this essential principle by exploring their diversity while working together to create unity. Moral and Spiritual Education We recognize that moral and spiritual training is a basic foundation of education and that this aspect of human nature needs development for the growth of a healthy, balanced person. Therefore, students are exposed to the sacred writings of the major world religions and are educated in the acquisition of virtues and good character. Excellence in the Pursuit of Knowledge We regard knowledge as a tool that unlocks the secrets of creation. Students are encouraged to strive for excellence in their pursuit of knowledge in order to fulfill their intellectual potential. Equality of Women and Men Students are taught that one of the requisites for the progress of civilization and the attainment of world peace is the equal opportunity for women and men to develop their potential in an environment of mutual respect and co-operation. The young women of Banani School explore how they can contribute to society as equal partners with men. Respect Respect implies freedom from prejudice and an appreciation of our racial, religious, national, and social diversity. Students are expected to have a positive regard for one another, the adults in their lives, as well as an attitude of reverence for the natural environment. Community Service Service to others is service to God. Service to others is regarded as a fundamental necessity for healthy communities and societies. Students are able to demonstrate and develop their knowledge, skills, and character in practical, relevant applications to the service of humanity. Consultation The communication skill of consultation, which enables people to work together in cooperation, is viewed as an essential tool for the full development of individual, family, and community life. Students are encouraged to practice this skill in all aspects of Banani School life. Self-Discipline The object
of discipline is to enable students to achieve a mature sense of personal
responsibility and inner self-control. Our students are provided with
a set of physical, moral, and intellectual parameters within which they
are safe to develop and explore their own personal growth. |
